The School of Science at the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH, seeks Associate Professor in Mathematical Statistics

KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden?s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees.

The School of Engineering Sciences carries out a wide range of research at the international front line, from fundamental disciplines such as physics and mathematics, to engineering mechanics with applications such as aeronautics and vehicle engineering. We also offer University degree programs in Engineering Physics, Vehicle Engineering, 'Engineering and Education', and 'Open Entrance', as well as a number of International Masters Programmes.

The division of Mathematical Statistics has wide-ranging activities in probability, statistics and financial mathematics, spanning both undergraduate and graduate education, and research. Research areas covered include inference in stochastic processes, Monte Carlo simulation-based statistical methods, Bayesian models and methods, large deviations, stochastic control, pricing of financial derivatives, and analysis of risk.

The position's research profile includes theory, mathematical models and statistical methods to problems within mathematical statistics.

Job duties
The successful applicant is expected to do research and teaching in the subject area as well as the related administrative tasks. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the development of the institution's education at both the basic and advanced levels, interact with scientists at the department and others within and outside KTH, and supervise thesis projects carried out in the application areas, often at companies.

Qualifications
Persons eligible for employment as Associate Professor have been awarded a doctor?s degree or possess scientific expertise of a corresponding nature, or other professional abilities relevant to the subject area and the tasks required by the position. It is also required to have passed a course in university pedagogy, or to have corresponding abilities acquired by other means. In addition, personal pedagogical ability must have been demonstrated and documented. A particular criterion of assessment will be the applicant?s ability to apply, receive funding for and develop research projects and ability to lead education and research activities.

Evaluation criteria
For the assessment of the position equal attention will be paid to research and teaching skills. Great importance is attached to the applicant's research skills in the subject, as reported by publications in international journals of high quality, and ability to establish an independent research program within the field. Of great importance is also teaching skills and development. Research and teaching experience related to financial mathematics is an advantage for this position.

In the evaluation, the applicant's ability to establish and develop partnerships in research and teaching will be considered. Industry experience related to financial mathematics is an advantage. The person who is hired and who cannot teach in Swedish when taking office is expected to teach in Swedish within two years after admission.
